Statement on Australia’s Participation in the Third Berlin Conference on Sudan

Australia participated with a diplomatic delegation as an observer at the Third International Conference on Sudan held in Berlin on 15 April, during which it announced an additional AUD 7 million in humanitarian assistance for Sudan, bringing Australia’s total contribution since the outbreak of the war to AUD 65 million. This announcement reflects Australia’s continued commitment to supporting the international response to Sudan’s crisis amid the unprecedented humanitarian deterioration facing the country.

SAAN welcomes this Australian position and values Australia’s support for international efforts aimed at alleviating humanitarian suffering, ensuring unhindered access to aid for affected populations, and advancing international efforts toward ending the war and achieving a comprehensive peaceful solution that restores civilian rule and fulfils the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace and stability.

SAAN also hopes Australia will continue to use its diplomatic presence and international partnerships to support initiatives aimed at protecting civilians, ensuring accountability for violations, and contributing meaningfully to a just and sustainable political settlement that ends the suffering of the Sudanese people.
